crossmedia performance "i am my own wife" after play by doug wright, directed by anđelka nikolić and performed by slobodan beštić, had a premiere in january 2007 in the gallery progress, belgrade. in this work, we explored the reexamination of the past on the personal and the collective level, getting an emotional attitude toward history, fabrication of myths, heroes and other forms of parallel reality in order to escape personal responsibility and/or guilt. we observed tiny line between truth and lies and travesty of the man in the travestied society. eight years later in 2014, we decided to remake this show in the cultural centre parobrod, belgrade. in this new creative process, we had a different approach and, as a matter of fact, we made a new version of the show. instead of trying to visually reconstruct museum of charlotte von mahlsdorf, which was the base idea of the original show, we treated the show itself and its elements (objects, video, sound, but also the actor’s performance) as the museum exhibits. we feel this new show more intimate, direct and personal, that’s why we call it just “charlotte”.
